Porto Montenegro

Located in the beautiful Bay of Kotor, Porto Montenegro is developing the first state-of-the-art marina in the region, with luxury waterfront residences, boutique hotel, cafes, shops, restaurants and more. The investment team is led by Peter Munk, founder and Chairman of the world's largest gold mining corporation, Barrick Gold, and includes some of the world's most respected business figures, including Lord Jacob and Nathaniel Rothschild, Bernard Arnault and Oleg Deripaska. Porto Montenegro is currently the fastest selling development of its kind in Europe.

Daido Company

The Japanese Daido Company, founded in 1939, had bought majority of shares of the Factory of Ball Bearings - now called Daido Metal Kotor. The Japanese investor has made €9 million of investment in the company to date. Daido is a world leader in lubricated bearing production (used for automobiles, shipping and other industries), with the capital of $3.8 billion and 1,260 employees. Daido Global Network is present in Europe, Asia and North America. Daido’s plan for the next 10 years is to reach €130 millions in sales in the European market.

Hellenic Petroleum S.A

The Greek company Hellenic Petroleum S.A, in 2002 became the mayor owner, with 54.4% of shares of Jugopertol AD Kotor - previously state owned company for exploration, exploitation and trade of petroleum and petroleum products. Hellenic Petroleum paid €65 million for shares and provided additional €35 million for investments. The company has expanded its activities (wholesale, retail, distribution of petroleum). In cooperation with partners from UK Jugopetrol is involved in exploration of gas in the Adriatic Sea.


Belgian Interbrew purchased the brewery Trebjesa from Niksic for total amount of DEM 41 million. Local brewery is producing beer since 1896. After purchasing over 70% of shares Interbrew had introduced new packing for the beer as well as new products such and light beer and bottled water. These products are exported into region.


The first GSM call was performed on July 10th 1996. The Norwegian telecommunication company Telenor Mobile Communication AS is 100% owner of the first mobile operator in Montenegro. With 225 employees Pro Monte is the largest greenfield investment in Montenegro. Total investments made so far are reaching €90.0 million.


Hungarian Telecommunication Company Matav owned by one of the four worldwide leaders Deuche Telecom had become in April 2005 the major owner of Telecom Crne Gore. The purchase price for 51% of shares bought from the State of Montenegro was €114 million. Matav had bought additional 22% of shares at stock-exchange for €22 million. In addition in next 5 years company is planning to invest €67.3 million.

Montenegro Stars

Hotels Group Montenegro Stars was founded in July 2003. The core business of the company is tourism and hotel services. The company is the owner of three hotels: “Blue star” in Budva, “Montenegro” and “Splendid” in Becici. “Montenegro stars” purchased Hotel “Splendid” for 2.4 million euros, but is investing over 50.0 million. Company plans to open about 700 new jobs.


British company Beppler&Jacobson invested over 9 million euros in recently opened hotel Bianca. Hotel “Bianca” with the accompanying facilities and the land was sold to the British company for €1.6 million. At the moment this company is involved in reconstruction and modernization of the ski tracks, ski lifts and cableway. Same company purchased hotel “Avala” for €3.2 million and plans to invest over €10 million in the hotel modernization.

Societe Generale Group

One of the leading financial groups in the euro zone with over 386 billion assets under management, Societe Generale Group purchased 64.4% shares of "Podgoricka Banka" for 385 euros per share. Societe Generale Group is the third corporate and investment bank in the euro zone with more than 19 million customers in the retail-banking in the world

Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank Group

After opening branch offices in Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Germany Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank Group opened leasing and bank in Montenegro. HAA Group employs more than 5.200 people that serve more than 750.000 customers.

Mall of Montenegro

Mall of Montenegro, the multi-functional center in the heart of Podgorica, comprises two different aspects of shopping: Green Bazaar and a modern shopping mall. It is realized as the first private-public partnership project in Montenegro between the local partner-Municipality of Podgorica and the foreign partner-Turkish company Gintas Construction Contracting and Trade Inc. Its central location, unique bland of traditional and modern shopping concepts and self contained environment, offering a wide range of goods and services, inevitably make Mall of Montenegro a shopping and entertainment destination for the whole family. The mall features fashion stores, hypermarket, bank, restaurants, cafes and modern entertainment facilities, 12 lanes bowling, ensuring a complete shopping experience. The RAMADA PODGORICA CITY Hotel & Convention Centre will be a part of Mall of Montenegro complex, under the international brand RAMADA. Its opening is expecting to take place on March, 2012. Besides its core activity, general construction and contracting, the Gintas Group is providing the full specter of activities related to land development, tourism, industrial and commercial international trade.

Lustica Bay Montenegro

Orascom - Lustica DevelopmentDuring the fourth quarter of 2009, Orascom Development Group entered into an agreement with the Government of Montenegro to develop an integrated destination on the Mediterranean Traste Bay. The total land bank for the project amounts to 6.8 million m² in Lustica, in the municipality of Tivat The integrated project is planned to offer 2,080 residential units, seven hotels with a total capacity of 1,370 rooms, 2 world-class marinas on the Adriatic Sea with 170 berths, an 18-hole golf course, a Thalasso Centre, commercial facilities, a town center, and basic infrastructure requirements. The destination presales were launched during 2012 along with the initial construction of the access roads, clearing and the marinas. The project will be the first certified eco-labeled development in Montenegro.

Azmont Kumbor

By signing the Contract on the lease of the land of former military facility in Kumbor, Montenegro enabled the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic – SOCAR to gain full ownership over the range of facilities that will be built in a period of lease duration. The resort with the area of 25 hectares will be located on the shore of the Bay of Kotor, on the site of the old barracks in Kumbor town. Once complete, Portonovi will include the One&Only Portonovi, a destination wellness spa, a marina catering to super yachts, a luxury beach club, the Portonovi Arena, Conference Centre and a tennis academy. Visitors will be able to explore waterfront shops, cafes and restaurants, botanical gardens with biodiversity and eco-park, as well as a fish market and organic food market. Initially, a €250 million investment was planned. However, later a decision was made to increase the amount of investment up to €500 million. The new facility will include a network of One&Only resorts, focused on the exclusive clients. The investment will be the biggest in this area of business in SEE.

Qatari Diar

One of the largest real estate companies in the world, Qatari Diar has started to develop a luxury project in Montenegro. The company acquired the rights to the Blue Horizon hotel complex for €24 million, and it is in their plan to develop a five-star luxury hotel, that will include sports resorts and villas. Set up in Plavi Horizonti, on the Lustica Peninsula, this project represents one of the most exclusive projects in the whole of Europe, considering the green surroundings on one side and clear blue water on the other side of the project. Considering the fact that the company Qatari Diar is known world widefor its high-luxury projects, there is no doubt that the project in Plavi Horizonti will live up to the company’s reputation. Following projects from Seychelles all the way to Cuba and Tajikistan, company Qatari Diar recognized Montenegrin potential and decided that their next project should be right on the Montenegrin coast of the Adriatic Sea. Investment will amount 250 million.

Hotel Maestral

The sale of the Hotel Maestral in 2001 to the biggest Slovenian Hotels group HIT for €4.5 millions is one of the most successful privatizations in hotel industry in Montenegro. The investor from Nova Gorica had invested over €30 million, although the contractual obligation only required an investment of €7 million in the four years time. The Hotel is now in the 4* category and already has won many international awards.
